Drennen Engineering, Inc. is a new engineering services company formed in July 1998. The purpose of the company is to provide you with engineered solutions to two of your chronic backpass problems: fly ash erosion and backpass plugging.

This company is committed to developing tools, techniques and solutions for one of your most nagging and costly repair and maintenance problems: Boiler Tube Failures (BTF) from fly ash impact.

John Drennen John F. Drennen Jr. is President and principal investigator. He has worked in the erosion area since 1984 and has been involved in many aspects of this field, from fundamental studies to finding practical solutions for real world problems. This includes the following areas:

Fly Ash Analysis and Testing to Determine Erosive Properties
Materials (Wear) Performance at Simulated Boiler Conditions
Component Testing to Determine Low Wear Designs
Physical and Computer Modeling of Boiler Components and Systems
Control and Prevention of Fly Ash Erosion

Mr. Drennen’s work experience includes 20 years in the ABB Combustion Engineering, Inc. Research and Development Laboratory in Windsor, Ct. He worked for six years in the Instrumentation and Controls group and 14 years in the Mechanical Systems group performing work in the erosion area. This work also included physical and computer modeling of various boiler systems and components. He has a B.S. Degree in Engineering Science from SUNY at Buffalo, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Connecticut.

Mr. Drennen has several relevant Papers and Publications related to the Erosion topic. He is also co-author of the EPRI Publication, “Guideline for Control and Prevention of Fly Ash Erosion”, (Report TR-102432), 1994.
